Gamboa and JuanMa on collision course?

"Island Warriors - Latin Fury 12" on October 10th

On October 10th Yuriorkis Gamboa and Juan Manuel Lopez will be co-headlining the Pay-Per-View mega-show "Island Warriors - Latin Fury 12" co-promoted by Top Rank, ARENA Box-Promotion and PR Best Boxing at legendary Madison Square Garden. "El Ciclon" defends his WBA featherweight championship for the first time against Whyber Garcia. Juan Manuel Lopez puts his WBO super bantamweight title on the line against Rogers Mtagwa from Tanzania.

But rather than their respective fights boxing fans and experts from all over the world discuss the question whether Gamboa and Lopez could be on direct collision course.

"At the moment he is fighting at 122, I am world champion at 126", says Gamboa. "We are in two different divisions but not that far apart. We do a lot of media work together for the October 10th show so we got to know each other a little bit. It's impossible not to respect JuanMa for his achievements. He is a great champion and an exciting fighter. As a boxing fan - and I consider myself a fan - I enjoy watching him a lot. From my perspective as a fighter I always want to test myself against the best in the world. So direct clashs with fellow world titlists are always interesting. In the end it is up to my management and my promoter Ahmet Oener to pick my opponents. I fully trust them because they helped me to become world champion and led my way to world famous Madison Square Garden. If they decide that I should take on JuanMa and if we can agree to the terms of such a fight I am sure that it could be a great battle for all fans to watch. But right now I am only focussing on my next fight against Whyber Garcia on October 10th."
